Our flagship health and administrative center, Mendocino Community Health Clinic has been located on Laws Avenue since moving from the old County Hospital facility in 1994. Beginning in 2002, we renamed the health facility to align with the names of our other centers, and we now call it Hillside Health Center.
Originally, MCHC delivered around 70 patient visits each day. In 2004, including patients at all three of our sites, that figure will rise to over 600 patients per day.
To meet this extraordinary demand, MCHC will be undertaking significant improvements at Hillside, increasing our number of exam rooms by erecting a new building to house MCHC administrative offices. In a move to lower our overall operating costs, we plan on bringing Luce Avenue billing staff into Hillside.
Clinical initiatives include increasing our focus on educating patients about lifestyle choices and their health, and we have already instituted free classes that are getting enthusiastic participation from our patients. Of key concern is the widespread obesity among all our patients.
