Because Lake County did not have a comprehensive care clinic for the un- and underinsured, MCHC opened Lakeside Health Center in 1999. Lakeside patients are offered primary care, oral health and counseling services, as well case management and support for chronic illness.

Transportation has been a key issue challenging our Lake County patients. The county's huge area and inadequate public transportation system undermine patient access to care. To address this need, MCHC sought and received funding to purchase a van, now used to assist patients who require transportation support. We also pursued and were granted a public transit bus stop right on our property.

In 2009, one of Lakeside's buildings was converted to a child-friendly pediatric health center, anchored by pediatrician Marlene Quilala, M.D.

Lakeside staff works with community agencies to create collaborative solutions to the pressing health concerns of the people we serve. For example, over the last few years, we have forged a strong partnership with Lake County Public Health, California Dental Disease Prevention Program and Lake County Healthy Start in the implementation of a school-based model of delivering oral health education and screenings in local classrooms. This multi-year effort is yielding solid improvements in the oral health of Lake County children.
