Acquiring Financial Resources

Grants acquisition is a key component of MCHC's fiscal strategy. We use grant funds to increase our patients' access to health services. We pursue a broad array of funding opportunities, including:

Federal Grants
Federal grants are MCHC's main source of grant funding; they ensure operational support and uncompensated care for various vulnerable populations (e.g., low-income families, people living with HIV/AIDS, farm workers or the homeless). Current federal grants include the Public Health Service Section 330 (PHS 330) Grant and Part C Ryan White Care Act Grant Funding.

I'll contribute State Grants
Due to California’s budget crisis, traditional clinic funding from the State has been discontinued at the current time.

Local and Private Foundation Grants
These funds may be used for a variety of purposes including core operating support, capital improvements and direct services. Grants recently awarded include funds from the Community Foundation of Mendocino County, The Tides Foundation, The California Wellness Foundation and Blue Shield of California Foundation. Additionally, donations are received from a variety of local community-based organizations and individuals.

Collaborative Grants
Recent partners in MCHC collaborative grants include the Alliance for Rural Community Health, Ukiah Valley Medical Center, Sutter Lakeside Hospital, Ford Street Project, and the Mendocino County AIDS and Viral Hepatitis Network.

Fundraising in our Communities

Local fundraising has become an increasingly important goal at MCHC. We look for new opportunities to inform the people who may not utilize services at our centers about the important role we play in maintaining healthy communities.

Recent fundraising projects:
  • The Community Healthcare Fund: MCHC uses this fund to help patients needing expensive procedures or referrals for specialty care when the patient’s share of treatment costs are more than they can afford.
  • Give Kids a Smile Day: Each year on the first Friday in February, MCHC's dental team members provide free oral health care services to low-income children. This project is undertaken with collaborative community partners who assist by identifying children and families affected by untreated dental disease.
  • Maternal Health Incentives: Our prenatal health/obstetrics program has garnered support from local merchants to provide incentives for women to attend prenatal care appointments regularly.
  • Care for Kids dental program: With funding, MCHC reaches out to local children with unmet oral health needs in schools, at daycare centers and at community events providing education and assessment services.
