Acquiring Financial Resources

Grants acquisition is a key component of MCHC's fiscal strategy. We use grant funds to increase our patients' access to health services. We pursue a broad array of funding opportunities, including:
Federal Grants
Federal grants are MCHC's main source of grant funding; they ensure operational support and uncompensated care for various vulnerable populations (e.g., low-income families or people living with HIV/AIDS). Current federal grants include the Public Health Service Section 330 (PHS 330) Grant and Title III Ryan White Care Act Grant Funding.

State Grants
MCHC's principal State grant is issued by the California Department of Health Services, Rural Health Services Development Program. Its purpose is to increase access to health services in rural areas. Other State funding includes Title II funding for patients with HIV/AIDS and building improvement funds from the California Health Facilities Financing Authority (CHFFA).

Local and Private Foundation Grants
These grants may be used for a variety of purposes including core operating support, capital improvements and direct services. Grants recently awarded include funds from First 5 Mendocino, The Tides Foundation, The California Endowment and Delta Dental Foundation.

Collaborative Grants
Recent partners in MCHC collaborative grants include Lake County Health Leadership Network, the Alliance for Rural Community Health and the BiNational Health Committee.

Fundraising in our Communities

Local fundraising has become an increasingly important goal at MCHC. We look for new opportunities to inform the people who may not utilize services at our centers about the important role we play in maintaining healthy

Recent fundraising projects:
  • La Buena Vida: we raised over $7,000 in support of our Latino health fair.
  • Give Kids a Smile Day: Local dental organizations and dental supplies companies supported our efforts to reach out to over 600 children with unmet oral health need.
  • Maternal Health Incentives: Our prenatal health/obstetrics program has garnered support from local merchants to provide incentives for women to attend prenatal care appointments regularly.
  • The Community Healthcare Fund: MCHC raises money locally to help close the gap when the cost of treatment is more than a patient can afford.
