| July 6, 2005 MCHC welcomes grant of Direct Relief medical supplies
UKIAH - Mendocino Community Health Clinic, Inc. (MCHC), a local nonprofit healthcare corporation, has been granted more than $61,000 worth of medicines and medical supplies. They will be dispensed at no charge to patients who qualify at any one of MCHC's three health centers located in Lake and Mendocino Counties. The gift was given to MCHC by Direct Relief International of Santa Barbara.
Since 1948, Direct Relief International has worked to improve the quality of life for people in need. Direct Relief focuses on health, and is dedicated to providing essential material resources to locally run health programs in poor areas around the world.
Noting the large contribution from Direct Relief, MCHC President Lin Hunter says, "We are always looking for opportunities to partner with other organizations who share the mission of protecting the health of those people in our communities who do not have access to healthcare. This is one of several donations we have received from Direct Relief. They provide a crucial link to real health by providing life-protecting medications and testing supplies out of the financial reach of many of our patients. The gift given by Direct Relief may save a life. We are very grateful."
The medications will be dispensed by MCHC's healthcare providers as needed to patients at the three health centers operated by MCHC: Hillside Health Center in Ukiah; Lakeside Health Center in Lakeport; Little Lake Health Center in Willits. Patients qualify as eligible if they have low incomes and their medical needs are not met by other program sources.
MCHC is a 501(C) 3 corporation governed by a Board of Directors drawn from its local communities. Any resident of Lake or Mendocino County who is interested in serving on the board is asked to contact Kathy Keyser, Assistant to the President, at (707) 472-4511. ###
