Outreach for National Children's Dental Health Month
LAKEPORT - Children affected by untreated dental problems often exhibit behaviors that undermine their future. They perform poorly at school, they miss school frequently and they suffer from low self-esteem. Unmet oral health need has reached crisis proportions among families who do not have comprehensive health benefits, who cannot find work or who live from paycheck to paycheck.February is National Children’s Dental Health Month and, to honor this national observance, Lakeside Health Center has partnered with Lake County Health Services and Lake County Healthy Start to provide oral exams and tooth sealants to those children who all too often "fall through the cracks." On Friday, February 4, they will be celebrating Give Kids a Smile Day, traveling to various sites around the County to serve children.
Dr. Doug Lewis, Dental Director of Lakeside Health Center and Marta Fuller of Lake County Health Services will be attending to children at Minnie Cannon Elementary School in Middletown. Liberty Perry of Lake County Healthy Start has supported the effort by identifying children in need of these special services.
Other Lakeside Health Center staff will be going to preschools and child care centers to provide education about the importance of brushing and flossing. For more information about Give Kids a Smile Day contact Victoria Razo at Lakeside Health Center by calling 263-0196.
