Glenn Rogers, M.D. joins staff at Little Lake Health Center
WILLITS—The staff at Little Lake Health Center welcomes Dr. Rogers to their practice. He will be seeing patients in his internal medicine practice and will be serving as the clinic’s Medical Director. He has staff privileges at Frank R. Howard Memorial Hospital.
Prior to his acceptance of the position at Little Lake Dr. Rogers worked for ten years at the Hillside Health Center in Ukiah. Both Little Lake and Hillside are operated by Mendocino Community Health Clinic (MCHC), Inc. MCHC is a nonprofit healthcare corporation whose mission is to provide access to excellent healthcare services for the most vulnerable people in the community.
Dr. Rogers was born and raised in Berkeley, California, and attended UC Berkeley, where he received his B.A. in mathematics. Afterward he did graduate work in measure theory, which is the theoretical basis of probability and statistics. He was accepted to Berkeley’s prestigious doctoral program in mathematics, but ultimately declined, feeling he would be happier in a field where he could serve people more directly. He comments, “I believe that my background in mathematics has been an invaluable foundation for practicing medicine. After all, very little is certain in medicine, and we doctors must continually assess risks and benefits, weighted by the probabilities associated with diseases, in order to decide what is best for our patients.”
Dr. Rogers earned his M.D. at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and completed his internal medicine residency at LAC+USC Medical Center in Los Angeles. During his residency, he took time off to complete a medical Spanish dictionary that he had begun compiling in medical school. The dictionary, titled English-Spanish Spanish-English Medical Dictionary was published by McGraw-Hill in 1991 and remains in print.
Recently Dr. Rogers completed the 3rd edition, a major expansion of the work which includes many health-related terms that are difficult or impossible to find in other dictionaries–terms such as “peer group,” “significant other,” “hospital bed,” and “skilled nursing facility.”
Dr. Rogers recently moved to Willits with his wife Cynda Valle, an artist, and their two sons aged 12 and 14. When not practicing medicine he enjoys playing guitar, backpacking, keeping up on his math, and playing soccer. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, Alpha Omega Alpha, and the California Medical Society.
Dr. Rogers is currently welcoming new patients into his practice. Little Lake Health Center is located at 45 Hazel Street, just behind Howard Hospital. Appointments may be made by calling 456-3900.
