Anna Shaw Becomes Director of Development at MCHC Health Centers

July 2018

In preparation for the planned retirement of long-time MCHC grants administrator Catherine Rada in February 2019, MCHC Health Centers is proud to announce the addition of Anna Shaw as the new director of development.

With her English accent and red lipstick, Shaw is easy to recognize.

Shaw has spent most of her professional life working for organizations whose mission has been to help the most vulnerable people in society. Originally from London, England, Shaw spent many years as the head of strategy for the National Health Service, monitoring quality measures, reviewing financial data, administering grants, and publicizing NHS initiatives. “I did a little bit of everything,” she said. “I like variety! It’s mentally stimulating.”

After coming to the United States, she met her husband and they spent a short time on the East Coast before settling in Fort Bragg, her husband’s hometown. There, Shaw became the executive director of the Hospitality House, a homeless shelter that provides meals, case management services, vocational services, mental health services, and more.

When Shaw learned about the open position at MCHC Health Centers, she did a little homework to learn more about federally qualified health centers (FQHC) and discovered “it’s a great model to help the uninsured and under-insured. It just makes sense.”

Shaw’s plan is to work side-by-side with Rada to learn the grant administration side of things until Rada’s retirement in February. Shaw will also be working on advocacy and reaching out to her extensive network of Mendocino County contacts (as well as creating new relationships) to explore partnership opportunities.

“I’m so happy to be working in a bigger place with a great group of senior leaders. In the short time I’ve been here, I’ve been really impressed by many of our employees in lots of different departments,” she said. She also noted her appreciation for having had so many meaningful jobs, jobs “purpose.” She said working for such a well-run company with such a solid mission feels like a perfect fit.

When Anna’s not at work, you can find her on the beach with her three rescue dogs.

MCHC is a local non-profit organization providing access to comprehensive healthcare for people in Ukiah, Willits and Lakeport. All MCHC health centers accept Partnership (Medi-Cal), Medicare, Covered California insurance and other insurance.
